Cebu vs Bacolod vs Iloilo: where small biz websites actually convert
Kumusta from Bacolod! When we started building demo sites for clinics across the Visayas, we expected the numbers to look the same across cities. They don't. Cebu, Bacolod, and Iloilo each behave differently — and the differences matter for how you'd plan a website launch.
Below is what we've seen from a few months of building free demo sites for dental, derma, and vet clinics across all three cities. Numbers here are early-data tendencies, not statistically rigorous studies. We'll flag what's confident vs what's anecdotal as we go.
Profile of each city
Cebu
Bacolod
Iloilo
The headline difference: Cebu has roughly 4× the search volume of Bacolod for "dental clinic [city]"-type queries. Iloilo sits closer to Bacolod, but with noticeably more Tagalog code-switching in patient messaging (more in-migration from Luzon).
Niche conversion across the three
From the demo sites we've launched and gotten pilot data on:
| Niche | Cebu | Bacolod | Iloilo |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dental | High demand, high competition. Many clinics already have websites. Conversion needs strong differentiation. | Moderate demand, low competition. Most clinics have FB Page only. A decent website ranks fast. | Moderate-high demand, moderate competition. Sits between Cebu and Bacolod on every metric. |
| Derma / aesthetics | Premium positioning works. Patients willing to pay for branded experience. Higher AOV per visit. | Growing market. Patients more price-sensitive but loyalty-prone once acquired. | Strong growth segment. Lots of returning OFWs spending on aesthetic upkeep during home leave. |
| Vet | Saturated in central Cebu City. Easier on outskirts (Mandaue, Talisay). | Underserved. Pet ownership growing, online discoverability low. | Mid-market. Growing pet culture, especially around the university belt. |
Where we're seeing pilot conversion
Honest read on early data, anonymised:
Bacolod is the friendliest market for new entrants
The combination of moderate demand and low online competition means a well-built website with proper Local SEO ranks within 60–90 days. Patient conversion rates from website visit to booking are also higher than the Cebu average — we suspect because Bacolod patients face less choice fatigue. Fewer options means more decisive bookings.
If you're a clinic owner deciding between investing in a website or boosting FB posts in Bacolod: the website wins on year-1 ROI. The FB-only competition is large but their reach is collapsing yearly.
Cebu rewards differentiation, punishes generic
A generic "we are a dental clinic with caring staff" website in Cebu disappears into the noise. Cebu patients have 20+ clinic websites to compare. The ones that convert clearly state: a specific specialisation (cosmetic? pediatric? sleep apnea?), explicit pricing, and visible review counts above 100.
If you're launching a Cebu clinic site without differentiation, you're invisible. Spend the extra time on the positioning before you spend on the build.
Iloilo is the sleeper market
Iloilo has Cebu-like online maturity but Bacolod-like competition density. Combined with strong OFW demographics and rising household incomes, it's quietly one of the better small-biz website markets in the Visayas right now. Our early pilot conversion rates there have been the highest of the three for derma specifically.
Most Manila-based agencies still treat Iloilo as "secondary tier" — meaning local clinics there have less competition for digital agency attention. If you're building in Iloilo, you have a window.
Tailoring tips per city
Bacolod
- Open in Hiligaynon. "Maayong adlaw!" on the hero hits differently than "Kumusta!" Patients recognise locality instantly.
- Reference local landmarks. "Near SM Bacolod" or "Beside Negros Museum" lands stronger than abstract addresses.
- Lean into price transparency. Bacolod patients reward upfront pricing more than Cebu patients do. Show the strip.
- Friday-Saturday review SMS push. Higher weekend response rates than other days here.
Cebu
- Open in Cebuano. "Maayong buntag!" / "Maayong adlaw!" for morning/midday visitors.
- Show review counts prominently. Cebu patients filter heavily by review count. 100+ reviews is the credibility threshold.
- Specialisation in the hero. Don't lead with "dental clinic." Lead with "Cosmetic dentistry in IT Park" or "Pediatric dental in Banawa."
- Multi-language UI helps. Some patients prefer pure English; some Cebuano. A subtle language toggle is worth the build cost.
Iloilo
- Hiligaynon-Tagalog mix. Patients code-switch heavily. The 95/5 English-Tagalog rule still applies — the 5% can lean Hiligaynon or Tagalog interchangeably.
- Mention OFW-friendly hours. "Saturday consultations available" reads as accessible to balikbayans home for short visits.
- GCash payment options visible. Iloilo has high GCash adoption — flag it.
- Strong campus references for vet clinics. University belt vet clinics convert better with "near UPV" or "UI campus" copy.

What this means for pricing strategy
One thing we've noticed across all three cities: Bacolod and Iloilo clinics are more likely to choose our amortized plan (₱0 upfront, ₱1,699/mo year 1), while Cebu clinics are more likely to pay upfront (₱8,500 one-time + ₱1,000/mo from month 1). The total cost is similar — Cebu clinics just have more comfort with larger one-time outlays. Both options work; pick whichever fits your cashflow.

The honest caveat
Sample sizes here are early. We've launched dozens of demos, not thousands. Numbers will sharpen as we get more pilot data. The directional findings — Bacolod friendly, Cebu competitive, Iloilo the quiet opportunity — are consistent enough across our cohort to share, but treat them as compass directions, not GPS coordinates.

TL;DR
- Bacolod — friendliest for new entrants. Low competition, high conversion. Open in Hiligaynon. Lean into price transparency.
- Cebu — high traffic, high competition. Specialisation wins. 100+ reviews is the trust threshold.
- Iloilo — sleeper market. Cebu-like maturity, Bacolod-like competition. OFW-friendly hours convert.
- Regional openers (Hiligaynon, Cebuano) buy real recognition vs generic Tagalog or English.
- Conversion data here is early — directionally useful, not yet statistically rigorous.
